Many of you may know that Jed and I trained and completed a half marathon this August! Jed comes from a family of marathon runners and ran the St. George marathon himself a few years ago. My runnning experience on the other hand is more like mentally sprinting from my problems, so although I welcomed the thought of exercising with the panicked purpose of a real running race, I was a bit terrified. Even though Jed told me that anyone can run long distances if they put their mind to it, I couldn't help but reminded of the famed runner at the battle of "Marathon" who ran the 26 miles and then DIED. During training, this story did not seem so far-fetched. HOWEVER, my attitude did a complete 180 after being sucked into the marvelously written novel Born to Run. Here is a link to a book synopsis:

This book seriously inspired me SO much! If you've been aroun me this past month more than likely you've heard me get on my soapbox about it. All I have to say is that I went from absolutely fearing the half marathon to just wanting to enjoy it. My end goal was to love the experience. Here are pictures of Jed and I that fated day, care of the fabulous Bre. You can see for yourself how I was feeling ovet the finish line! : )

Although I finished last out of the Briggs family (Mylissa did like 7 min 30 sec miles and placed in her age group, Jed's mom won first in her age division and Steve and Jed both rocked the course at like 8 to 9 minute miles), I still averaged 10 minute 40 second miles! I beat my goal by like 5 minutes a mile...

Also this month I started back at Yo Gabba Gabba! Season Three. We did voiceover all during the month of August and we just finished out first week of filming last week. I LOVE my work. Everyday of filming we dress up for different themes for prizes at lunch. We had B movie day, OSHA safety day, D-Day, Mrs. Doubtfire day, Birthday/Monobrow day, Fedora/Vato day. I am just so priveleged to be around such fun people. You can see some of the awesome costumes on our Yo Blogga Blogga! link.

Today for Labor Day, we got together with Jed's best friends Patrick and Alex and their killer cool wifeys- Patricia and Kathy and they indulged me (for their kids sake too) in watching some Season 2 YGG episodes and I forget how absolutely hilarious and rad the show is. We just pray that it won't be another Arrested Develoopment and get cut off just as it's getting momentum.

Passover PAR-TAY

At the moment, Jed and I are watching the Ten Commandments. Jed got it as an Easter present for us and I'm quite impressed. I've never seen it before actually and Jed tells me that this movie framed the way he viewed the scriptures and his experiences at BYU Jerusalem years ago. Even though the Ten Commandments may not be totally historically accurate....but they did try to use the most historical sources they could find, it's reminding me how much Moses's story was an archetype of Christ. In a way they are foil deliverers. Moses was the son of slaves but raised in the most elaborate palaces the world has to offer. He was called to physically liberate his people. Christ was born with Kingly lineage but raised in the most humble circumstances. He was called to spiritually liberate His people. The coincidences don't stop there--shepherd metaphors (Moses' use of a shepherd staff), rejection/banishment, miracles, etc...

Anyway, just a few days ago we celebrated the Exodus! This was my 2nd annual Passover feast. I am fascinated by Jewish culture and people.

Magazine Thinks We're Hip Enough to be 'Square'

Square Magazine liked our l'il wedding and posted some photos from it. Enjoy!!

Emma and Jed’s wedding was all about colors and culture. Emma had lived in Hawaii, so she incorporated Hawaiian and Asian influences into her décor for a classy, tropical feel.

“I wanted a wedding that included my favorite colors and the cultures I love,” Emma says.

Emma also has a thing for all things vintage, so she added that into the mix with a self-designed vintage style dress made by Nancy Barrus Couture in Provo and real antique vases from Man on the Moon Antiques in Provo.

Emma’s advice for brides to be: “In the midst of your wedding planning, take time to think through why you are marrying your fiancé. After the wedding is over, all you have is him. I was lucky to have picked a great guy.”

Parasols were shipped from Thailand for each bridesmaid. Handmade bowties were made for all the boys. The couple asked their artistic family members and friends to paint pictures to display at their reception.

The bride designed the cake herself, and Dick’s Market in Bountiful pulled it off for under $200. The couple’s wedding was a marriage of vintage, Hawaiian, Asian and Victorian themes.
Link

Snoeshoeing!!!

Christmas Music 2008 on iTunes!

<img src="http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/images/spacer.gif" style="position: absolute; We'd never been and were looking forward to learning some more American history after watching the HBO series, John Adams. (Totally recommend). Anyway, we stayed with our friends and gracious hosts Patrick, Patricia and their little boy, Alex. We took the Freedom Trail that winds its way through downtown Boston stopping at various historical places that were integral to the Revolutionary War. It was quite amazing. Patrick's going to Harvard business school, so we got to check out Mit Romney's old stomping grounds as well. I got chased by a turkey while I was there. I wasn't expecting that.

We then got to go to Rhode Island. Neither of us had ever been. It's a quaint, charming place that reminded us of Bedford Falls for some reason, from the movie It's a Wonderful Life. It was a lot bigger than that town, but it had this small-town, New England feel to it. We went out to the bay and took some tug boat pics and ate Indian food. Emma really likes Indian food--me, not so much. But we had fun hanging out in such a small state.

Now, I'm in Dallas for work and Emm'a in NYC for play, and to see plays. I'm staying at an amazing Texas-sized resort that reminds me of Frontier Land from Disneyland. It's pretty spectacular, but I wish Emma were her. :( Oh well.

Here are the Wedding Photos!!!

Just click here.

Pie in the Sky

While some people may have thought that I got into a car accident, or chipped it during brazilian jujitsu world championships, or defending an old lady who was getting robbed--the real culprit was pie. After finishing a delicious piece of heaven from Marie Calender's and setting the empty ceramic plate on a leather ottoman, I argued a strong point of some sort standing up. I then sat on the ottoman very enthusiastically. The opposite spot--where the plate was sitting--rapidly filled with air. It inflated so quickly that the plate was projectiled in the air and subsequently at my face. The force was so strong that it chipped my tooth while my mouth was closed. (Needless to say, it took a few weeks for my bottom lip to heal.) The blood started to flow, but luckily my dear husband was close by who helped me every step of the way. What a man, I love him. Especially since he would never make sarcastic jokes capitalizing on my misadventures. I'm getting old. :( Thanks Ty and Mar for organizing everything. I guess you barely topped our amazing family reunion last year, but just barely.

The Honeymoon

We went to Cancun on our little honeymoon excursion. It was quite the trip. (Btw...never fly standby on your honeymoon even if you get airfare heavily discounted.) Emma had never been outside of the country and she had this dream of going to Mexico and visiting ancient ruins, while her husband spoke Spanish to all the natives. Luckily, I fit the bill--this was a large factor for Emma in determining who to marry among all her suitors ;). We truly had an amazing time and were a little reluctant to come home and try out the real world as a married couple. But, we ran out of sunscreen so we came home.

Emma's Graduation

Emma hasn't actually graduated quite yet, but she did get to walk with her mom.
